Decatur leads after first day at Hammerhead Invitational

Decatur leads at the Hammerhead Wrestling Invitational in the boys division after the first day of action with Olympic close behind. Finals take place Saturday in Bremerton starting at 6:30 p.m.

Leviticus Arizpe of Decatur and teammate AJ Sarno pinned their way into the semifinals, Arizpe at 132 pounds and Sarno at 182 pounds. Decatur’s Zach Berry, in at 145 pounds, will face Bainbridge’s Jack Miller for a spot in the finals. On the top half of that bracket, Inglemoor’s Riley Seward faces Lakes’ Tino Nieves.

At 152 pounds, Christian Villani of Bellevue — a two-time state champ — is in the semis, with Decatur’s Isaiah Diggs on the bottom half of that bracket. Diggs won a state title last year at 138 pounds.

Thomas Jefferson has Heng Yon in the semis at 170 pounds and Gabe Buccino of Bellevue (195),  Andrzej-Hughes-Murray (220) of Federal Way and Nathan Hiatt (106) of Curtis will also wrestle for a spot in the finals. Hiatt leads the tournament with four pins.
