Tahoma in fourth place heading into Day 2 of Tri-State wrestling tourney

Tahoma is sitting pretty in fourth place at the Tri-State Wrestling Tournament, a premier high school invitational that features wrestlers from Washington, Idaho and Montana. The event started Friday and continues Saturday with semifinals in the championship bracket and matches in the consolation bracket.

Justin Hoyle (98 pounds), Nick Whitehead (120) and Adam Hokenson (195) will compete for a spot in the finals. Hoyle will wrestle Juanita’s Beau Wiebe to advance. If Hokenson moves on, he could face Lake Stevens’ Cody Vigoren in the finals. Vigoren is in the bottom half of that bracket.

Tyler Headland (113), two-time state champ Michael Soler (132) and Jake Douglas (138) are also in the semis for Lake Stevens. Conner Small of Liberty (Issaquah) will wrestle in the 170-pound semis, Kentridge’s Derek Freitag in the 106-pound semis while Juanita’s Mason McDaniel aims to advance in the 160-pound weight class. McDaniel and Whitehead have pinned three opponents in the event so far.
