Tahoma and Lake Stevens finished fourth and fifth, respectively, at the Tri-State Wrestling invitational in Idaho this weekend.
Combined, the teams had ten wrestlers place at the big event. Lake Stevens had two wrestlers in the finals: Jake Douglas at 138 pounds and Cody Vigoren at 195 pounds. Both lost in close decisions. Douglas gave up a 4-2 decision to Orting’s Fred Green and Vigoren a 3-2 decision to Hermiston’s Sam Colbray.
Tahoma’s Justin Hoyle made it to the finals in the 98-pound weight class, but lost by technical fall to Orting’s Alex Cruz. Liberty of Issaquah’s Conner Small (170) was a third place finisher. Juanita had one placer in Mason McDaniel. He lost in the finals at 160 pounds to Omak’s Alex Aguilar, 5-2.
Also placing for Tahoma: Nick Whitehead (120) was third, Justin Sipila (126) sixth, Adam Hokenson (195) fourth and Kingston Suka (285) eighth.
For Lake Stevens, Tyler Headland (113) came in sixth, Alex Rodrigo (120) sixth and Michael Soler (132) fourth. Bethel had four wrestlers who placed: Devyn Sweem (98) was seventh, Dante Springsteen (145) fifth, Eli Teu Teu (195) fifth and Avyion Fisher (285) sixth.
Other area placers were Kentridge’s Derek Freitag (106) in third, Graham-Kapowsin’s Mason Eaglin (106) in seventh, Corde Ferreira (138) in seventh and Chad Simonson (120) in eighth, Auburn’s Balteer Rana (126) in seventh, Todd Beamer’s Sean Van Earwage (145) in seventh, Liberty of Issaquah’s Romney Noel (182) in seventh and Auburn’s Jacob Apodaca (285) in fourth.
