Lynnwood girl’s basketball wins Nike Interstate Shootout

We’re two days late on this post so our apologies:

The Lynnwood girl’s basketball team easily won the Nike Interstate Shootout on Dec. 30 with a 59-38 win over South Salem (Oregon) in the finals. South Salem (9-2) is ranked No. 2 in Class 6A in the Oregon state rankings. Lynnwood (9-0) is No. 1 in Class 3A in Washington.

Mikayla Pivec led the way for Lynnwood with a double-double: 24 points and 14 rebounds, and Kelsey Rogers added 16 points.

“As far as a challenge, we did face a challenge tonight,” Lynnwood coach Everett Edwards told The Oregonian. “South Salem is a very good team. We happened to outscore them, that’s all, and some breaks went our way.

“But it’s a good sign for us in that we can play our pressure style of defense, and still play unselfish offensively, against the top teams in Oregon.”
