AR’s Carson Heilborn a finalist for national award

Carson Heilborn, a 6-foot setter who led Auburn Riverside to an unbeaten season and its first state 3A volleyball championship, is among the 75 finalists for PrepVolleyball.com’s 2014 National Senior Player of the Year.

She was named Washington’s Gatorade Player of the Year several weeks ago.

According to John Tawa, founder and publisher of PrepVolleyball.com, a player had to have a “massive  impact on her high school team and the state” to be considered for the honor, and typically be considered one of the top 1-2 players in her state regardless of class.

Here’s what Tawa said about Heilborn:

A New Mexico signee, Heilborn guided the Ravens to an undefeated season in 2014 and the Washington 3A title. The South Puget Sound Class 3A MVP tallied 843 assists, 177 digs, 105 digs, 54 blocks and 47 aces on the year and had 35 assists, seven kills and six digs in the state championship final. She was named Washington Gatorade POY.

You can find the complete list of finalists at PrepVolleyball.com, which is a pay site. There are also links to the finalists for freshman, sophomore and junior POY. The only other Washington player honoroed was Tumwater freshman Kennedy Croft, who led the Thunderbirds to the 2A state championship.
