Mariner names Mark Stewart football coach

Mariner High School named former Washington star Mark Stewart as its head football coach Tuesday, the school announced in a release. Stewart was promoted from defensive coordinatorĀ to replaceĀ longtime head coach John Ondriezek.

Stewart most recently coached Garfield in 2013, but stepped down after one season, citing personal reasons. He led Meadowdale for 13 successful seasons prior to that, going 87-49 and earning nine state playoff appearances. Stewart has also coached at Renton.

Stewart, an All-American under Don James at Washington was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the 1983 draft and played two seasons in the NF
