Former Seahawks quarterback Jon Kitna announced Wednesday morning that he is resigning as head football coach at Lincoln in Tacoma to pursue a similar position at a high school in Texas, just south of Dallas.
Lincoln principal Pat Erwin said Kitna, a Lincoln graduate who went on to quarterback Central Washington University to the 1995 national title, broke the news to players at a morning meeting.
Kitna, who also teaches at Lincoln, was 24-8 in three season with the Abes with three postseason appearances. They were unbeaten last fall before losing to eventual-state champion Eastside Catholic in the 3A quarterfinals.
Kitna’s son Jordan threw for 55 touchdowns as a junior last season and will be making the move with the family, Erwin confirmed.
Kitna has accepted the coaching position at Waxahachie, a 4A program.
