Thanks to the Sammamish Review for bringing this to my attention. Skyline will be joined by honorary captain Sam Taylor tonight.
Taylor is a sixth grader at Beaver Lake Middle School who was diagnosed with a brain tumor this past December. He is currently being treated with chemotherapy and had a shunt implanted in his head to redirect spinal fluid that was building up due to the tumor.
Since being released from his hospital stay, Taylor has joined the Skyline basketball team on the bench for some games. Tonight, he will serve as honorary captain for the Spartans’ game against Woodinville and the school is hoping for a green-out.
Strong4Sam shirts are being sold in the Sammamish area for $5 and the money will go toward Fred Hutch Cancer Research — Project Violet. The purpose of the specific project is, taking directly from the linked document above: “to develop a new class of ant-cancer compounds derived from nature that will attack cancer cells while leaving healthy cells untouched. And to fund that drug development via crowdfunding, or as [Dr. Jim] Olson calls it, ‘citizen science.'”
Hop Jack’s restaurant in Klahanie Center will donate 20 percent of each order after the game from anyone wearing the Strong4Sam shirt to Project Violet.
