SPSL 4A hoop tourneys start today (Thursday)

Ready for some playoff basketball?

The SPSL 4A boys and girls start post-season action today (Thursday) with four games at the ShoWare Center in Kent.

The marquee games are the SPSL championship contests, starting at 7 p.m. with the girls contest between third-ranked Beamer and Curtis, which was in the top-10 earlier this season.

Then the boys title game is at 8:30 between No. 2 Federal Way and No. 9 Curtis.

The championship winners take No. 1 seeds into next week’s West Central District tournaments. The losers play again Saturday at Auburn Mountainview in games that decide the Nos. 2-3 seeds.

It’s a bit complicated this season with the SPSL North divided into Northest and Northwest. The Beamer girls and Federal Way boys both won the Northwest titles and beat the Northeast winners in crossover games (Kentlake girls, Kentwood boys). So they get to play for the overall SPSL titles.

The Kentlake girls and Kentwood boys await tonight’s losers.

Make sense? You can find the overall bracket on the SPSL website, as well as the more detailed girls brakcet here¬†and boys bracket here. Where you see an Excel link for “2015 Basketball Tournament”, that’s the overall pairings.

Today’s other games at ShoWare are for the No. 4 seeds. The girls game is beteen Bethel (South No. 2) and Kentridge (North No. 3 — technically Northeast No. 2) at 4 p.m. The boys game features Puyallup (South No. 2) vs. 10th-ranked Kentridge (North No. 3, or Northeast No. 2).

I’ll be there, so you can follow on Twitter @SandyRinger1.

The tournament continues Saturday at Auburn Mountainview and Bethel.
