Gymnastics: 3A/2A state-qualifying preview

Gymnastic teams will be competing in state-qualifying district and regional meets on Saturday. Here’s a schedule of Saturday’s Class 3A/2A meets and a compilation of the best scores recorded last weekend:

3A/2A, Feb. 14
KingCo and Metro 3A (District 2) at Ballard, 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. (top two teams to state)
Greater Spokane League and Mid-Columbia Conference 3A bi-district (Districts 5/8) at Mead Middle School, 1 p.m. (top team to state)
SPSL, Olympic League, Seamount League and Greater St. Helens League 3A bi-district (Districts 3/4) at Mount Rainier, 2:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. (top four teams to state)
Note: District 1 championships (involving five teams; one state qualifier) occurred Jan. 24, won by Shorewood (142.55), which advances to state.

Notes: Kiya Bjorge of Southridge, second in the 2014 state 3A/2A all-around, sat out her league meet last week but will compete at the District 5/8 meet Saturday in Spokane, reports her coach (and mother) Heather Bjorge. Alexis Lawrence, who won the 2014 3A/2A all-around title while competing for Kamiakin, has returned to club competition in 2015 and, according to her father, plans to compete for Seattle Pacific next year.
