Final Class 4A and 3A state girls soccer rankings

The Kentwood Conquerors are hitting their stride at just the right time.

The Conquerors, slowed up earlier this season by injuries, have won eight in a row heading into Tuesday’s Class 4A state first round playoffs.

They’re one of the state’s hottest teams heading into the state playoffs and moved up to the No. 4 spot in the final 4A state rankings.

Class 4A and 3A state girls soccer rankings — Week 9

Skyline girls soccer coach Don Braman can sum up his team by looking back on the Spartans’ most recent performance on Senior Night.

In that 6-0 victory over Redmond last week, six different players scored to help Skyline finish the regular season unbeaten at 15-0-0. In the process, the Spartans maintained a Class 4A No. 1 state ranking they’ve held the entire season.

Nick Holt expected to play against O’Dea

Nick Holt, Seattle Prep’s star quarterback and linebacker, is expected to play tonight when the Panthers take on O’Dea for the Metro League Mountain Division title.

Holt, who twisted his knee against Rainier Beach last week and watched the second half on crutches, didn’t practice this week to rest his knee for tonight.

Class 4A and 3A girls soccer rankings — Week 6

As the weeks progress in the girls soccer season, it’s becoming more difficult to keep teams out of the state rankings.

For the first time this season, I feel that at least a half dozen teams left out of this week’s state rankings probably should be in.

But there are only 20 spots in the Class 4A and 3A rankings.

Class 4A and 3A state girls soccer rankings — Week 5

While the girls soccer powers of Class 4A have held pretty steady this season, things have been a little more unsettling in 3A.

Glacier Peak is rock solid as the No. 1 ranked team in Class 3A, and Kennedy Catholic is a sturdy No. 2. But it’s sort of a crap shoot after that.

Five ranked 3A teams lost last week, shuffling the rankings.

Cleveland takes first big step

Fritz Martin has big plans for the Cleveland High School football team.

After going through his first season without a victory in 2009, Martin focused on making gains during the offseason and had his Eagles participating in camps and scrimmages much of the summer.

He figures last week’s 14-6 victory over Chief Sealth was an indication of a step in the right direction and a reward for the team’s dedication.

The Eagles will go after their second win a row tonight against Ingraham.
