“Weighing In”: Prep wrestling blog — Week 7

The Hornets took 10th at 3A state last season. The school has won four state titles in the wrestling, scoring back-to-back crowns on two occasions in 2008 and 2009 and 2011 and 2012.

Being ranked No. 1 doesn’t meaning anything yet, Eilers understands. He will find out how good the Hornets are at state on Feb. 21-22 in the Tacoma Dome.

“Weighing In”: Prep wrestling blog — Week 6

“I’ve always wanted to finish first at state, and that’s been my goal since my freshman year,” said McDaniel, who is off to a 19-3 start this season at both 160 and 170 pounds with wins over a pair of defending state champions. “It hasn’t worked out in the last couple years. It was disappointing to finish eighth last year, and it motivated me.

“I don’t want to feel that way again at the end of this year. It made me work harder.”
