I’m looking forward to covering the semifinals of the West Central District 4A girls basketball tournament tonight (Thursday) at Puyallup High School. I want to make sure you are aware of the time changes (because for some reason I wasn’t until this morning). The game between No. 3 Skyview (22-1) and No. 5 Mount Rainier (20-3) is…More

Post-season girls basketball play is in full swing, so I want to devote this edition of my weekly blog to some of the key playoff matchups. Before I go any further, you’ve got to remember to bookmark this site, where you can find brackets for pretty much all of the tournaments state-wide. Josh Liebeskind was at…More
Sorry for the late post with the latest girls basketball rankings today. I’ve had meetings and other commitments. So I’m going to keep the prelude short. It’s going to be a fun week as post-season play picks up and we should start seeing some great matchups. I’m excited to see Mount Rainier and Beamer square off…More
What a wild week of prep girls basketball — especially in Class 3A and 2A!
I’ve been scrambling most of the day trying to figure out how to rearrange major parts of the rankings in both classifications. I’ve shaken things up a bit, although there are no changes at the top, where Cleveland stays strong atop the 3A list and Mark Morris remains No. 1 in 2A — even though the Monarchs suffered their first loss of the season.
That’s because that loss came to a very good Skyview team, which ranked No. 4 in 4A. No crime there.
But let’s start in 4A, where the only changes come toward the bottom. Puyallup, No. 8 the past two weeks, drops out after suffering its first two losses of the season, back to back.
I wasn’t going to punish the Vikings for Tuesday’s loss to No. 3 Beamer. In fact, I was pretty impressed with the team throughout the first half. But then they lost to Emerald Ridge. So for now they drop back to the watch list.
Arlington and Chiawana each climb one spot and Inglemoor returns to the rankings at No. 10. The Vikings have been playing very well lately and I hope to get out and see them take on No. 6 Eastlake on Saturday. The Wolves won just 46-45 the first time around, but are also on a hot streak with their lone loss coming against No. 5 Mount Rainier.
The other big 4A game in the area Friday finds unbeaten, ninth-ranked Arlington against No. 1 Lynnwood. Hopefully we can get someone to that game, too.More
Since we are about halfway through the regular season in girls basketball (can you believe it??), I thought I’d focus this edition of Post-Ups to take a look at some of the area league races in 4A and 3A. Mind you, while most teams have played between 9-11 games overall (out of the 20 allotted, 21…More
Corrected version We are about a month away from the start of the softball playoffs in most leagues, and I can’t wait to get there. That’s when I’ll finally be able to get out and actually see a few games and some of these teams and players I’m featuring in this blog notebook. And hopefully we’ll have…More
