Great American Rivalry Series includes local prep football games

For the second straight year, and fourth time over the past seven seasons, the Bothell-Inglemoor football game will be part of the Great American Rivalry Series. Hoquiam vs. Aberdeen and Auburn vs. Kent-Meridian — Washington’s longest prep football rivalries — are also part of the 10th annual Series.

Not familiar with the program?

I admit I wasn’t, either, until I received a press release about it today, which I’ll share with you below. The focus in this release is on the Hoquiam-Aberdeen game, because it comes first, on Sept. 14. I’ve been told we’ll receive similar details when the other two local games near. They are actually scheduled back-to-back, with the Auburn/K-M game on Oct. 17 and Bothell/Inglemoor on Oct. 18.

The Hoquiam/Aberdeen rivalry is the longest in the state and is being featured for the second straight season. Auburn and K-M play for the Taylor Trophy, No. 2 in the state, and is in the Series for the first time. The Bothell-Inglemoor rivalry was first included in 2007, then again in 2009 and a third time last year.
