Triple Play: Softball notes on Woodinville’s suprsise, thoughts on state

My plan for this week’s softball notebook was to simply focus on the 4A, 3A and 2A state tournaments and analyze them a bit (especially 4A and 3A, where I feel I know a bit more about the fields). Then I heard about something special involving Woodinville coach Dani Weir and her players and decided to…

Triple Play: Softball notes on Woodinville, Beamer and Juanita

Three more teams take the forefront in this week’s edition of Triple Play, my weekly softball blog. First up will be Woodinville, and the Falcons’ plans to continue their winning tradition despite the loss of one of the state’s best pitching-catching combos – Madi Schreyer and Alex Boyd. Then you’ll hear from Beamer coach Brian Hering and…

Triple Play: Final softball notes for 2013

Wow, it’s hard to believe it’s all over! What a great softball season, rain and all!

The state tournaments were something else! Congratulations to all of the champions – Arlington (4A), Kamiakin (3A), Selah (2A), Connell (1A), Toutle Lake (2B) and Colton (1B).

To start this final edition of Triple Play for 2013, I want to share the news about Jerry Millsap’s decision to retire as Holy Names coach after 18 seasons. I’ve got some comments from him, and a few career highlights. I then will focus on the 4A and 3A state tournaments. I checked in via e-mail with the coaches of a few of the local teams who fared well, and will share their thoughts.

I’ll link to the tournament brackets in each classification, then wrap up with the latest national rankings one last time.

Triple Play: Softball notes heading into state

Here’s what we’ve all been waiting for….STATE! Congratulations to all of the teams who qualified! All of the tournaments should be very competitive, and there are some really good teams who didn’t quite make the cut.  I will be in Lacey for the 3A tourney, and we have a freelance reporter lined up to cover the 4A…

Triple Play: Softball notes on area 4A, 3A and 2A district tournaments

I’m changing things up a bit in this edition of Triple Play. Since most of the district tournaments in the area are underway, I’m going to catch you up on which teams have clinched state berths and which ones are still in the running, for 4A, 3A and 2A.  I’ll link you to the brackets and…

Triple Play: Softball notes on Juanita, Holy Names and Cascade, plus a recap of the Woodinville-N. Medford game, and national rankings

In this week’s Triple Play, you’ll hear about life after Allison Rhodes at Juanita, how Holy Names has high hopes after a year of maturation and get a look at Cascade’s red-hot start to the season.  And I’ll link you to the latest national rankings as well. First, though, I wanted to talk a bit about that…

Triple Play: Softball notes on Woodinville, Bainbridge and Enumclaw, for starters, and national rankings

We’re well into the early part of the softball season – hey, we’ve even had a few games snowed out as usual for March – so I want to get my weekly blog notebook started. I’m calling it Triple Play because I plan to feature three teams or players each Thursday.  And as we get a little…
