Christensen takes home 182 title at prestigious Tri-State tournament

To say that Woodinville senior wrestler Ryan Christensen is prepared for his senior season would be an understatement.

He’s poised for another run at a Class 4A state title – again at 182 pounds.

Christensen appeared in late-season form over the weekend when he tore through opponents in the 182-pound weight class at the vaunted 35th annual Tri-State Wrestling Tournament on Friday and Saturday at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Christensen, the defending Class 4A state champion at 182 bound for the University of Wisconsin, improved his season record to 13-0 with four victories en route to the 182-pound title at Tri-State on Saturday.

Christensen capped off his dominant weekend with a pin in one minute over Jordan Nolan of Kuna, Idaho, in the 182-pound championship match.

“He pretty well got going,” said Todd Christensen, Ryan’s father and first-year head coach of the Falcons after spending 2012-13 as co-head coach and 2011-12 as a volunteer assistant. “Those two losses he had bite a little bit, but he’s had a pretty good career so far. He’s been working hard. He needs to keep building and getting better. He’s focused on preparing for next year.”

He is already signed with Wisconsin and preparing to make the jump to college.
