As the day progressed, I began to sense that some of the confidence of Braves’ people was slipping away. The comments of Atlanta GM Frank Wren in the morning that they were waiting on Junior’s decision was telling, I thought, because the longer it was still a “decision,” the more it played into the Mariners’ favor.
Junior truly was agonizing over this one until the end, and though I still believe he was genuinely leaning toward Atlanta earlier in the week, obviously he never cemented that. And in the end, the tug of Seattle proved too great.
