Full Mariners’ draft list

The Mariners definitely went for bats over pitching in this draft. They drafted 28 position players, including 10 of the first 13 selections — and the first six. They chose 24 pitchers (including nine left-handers), 15 infielders, five catchers and eight outfielders.

The Mariners selected players from 21 states: California (8), Florida (7), Georgia (3), Hawaii, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan (2), North Carolina (2), New York (3), Oregon, Pennsylvania (2), Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas (7), Washington (3) and Wisconsin.

Forty-nine of their picks are US natives, and three are Canadian. The Mariners took nine high school players and 43 college players.

There were seven players were Northwest ties:

  • OF Adam Nelubowich, from Vauxhall H.S. in Stony Plain, Alberta, Canada (14th round)

  • LHP Blake Keitzman, from Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR (15th round).

  • LHP Jonathan Hesketh from Langley, B.C. Hesketh attends the University of New Mexico (20th round).

  • LHP Bennett Whitmore from the University of Oregon (32);

  • 2B Hawkins Gebbers from Brewster, WA, who is playing for Biola (CA) University (33);

  • RHP Jordan Merry from Pasco, WA and the University of Washington (40);

  • 3B Stephen Hagen, a Lakebay, WA, native (Peninsula) playing for Eastern Oklahoma St;

  • RHP David Holman, the son of former Mariners pitcher Brian Holman, who pitched for Hutchinson, CC in Kansas.
