I’m taking down my post about Don Wakamatsu getting named to the All-Star staff of Joe Maddon, because Geoff beat me to it.
But here’s something to mull over:
Not that we’re counting, but Wakamatsu and Kansas City’s Trey Hillman, Maddon’s other coach named today, have a combined 135 wins as major-league managers. Tony La Russa and Joe Torre, who will be on the coaching staff of NL manager Charlie Manuel, have a combined 4,690 wins, with 11 pennants and six World Series titles.
Then again, La Russa and Torre have lost 4,046 games, while Wakamatsu and Hillman have lost only 154.
