The Mariners announced today that a free public “Celebration of Life” to honor Dave Niehaus, the legendary announcer who died last week, will be held Saturday, Dec. 11, at 1:10 p.m. at Safeco Field. Gates will open at noon.
According to the Mariners, the program is still being developed, but will include tributes from the Niehaus family, Mariners players, and Dave’s close associates. Details will be released as they become available.
The event will be held in the seating bowl at Safeco Field, and fans are encouraged to dress for the weather (even though the roof will be closed if it rains). There will be complimentary hot coffee, tea and cocoa available for those who attend.
Parking will be free in the Safeco Field garage. Fans should enter the ballpark through the Home Plate Gate at the corner of 1st Avenue South and Edgar Martinez Drive.
The Niehaus family has suggested that any donation’s in Dave’s memory should be made to the American Heart Association (www.americanheart.org), American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org) or Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (www.foodallergy.org).
