Felix Hernandez supporting Martinez Foundation

Felix Hernandez is lending a hand to support The Martinez Foundation, founded by Edgar and Holli Martinez.

A portion of the proceeds from the Mariners’ April 10th game against Cleveland at Safeco Field — the first Sunday home game of the season — will benefit the Martinez Foundation, which provides scholarships and support programs to future teachers.

Hernandez is purchasing 100 tickets to the game, which are being donated to the South Park Community Center in Seattle.

The Moyer Foundation of Jamie and Karen Moyer has justifiably received considerable attention for their good works, but the Martinez Foundation also warrants a salute. In three years, it has granted over $800,000 in teaching scholarships to students pursuing teaching degrees at Seattle U, Washington State University, and the University of Washington.

You can find out more about the Martinez Foundation here, and get the information on how to purchase tickets for the April 10th game here. And here’s a story from the Seattle Times on the foundation’s launch in 2008.
