Mariners announce minor-league managers and coaches

The Mariners will return most of their minor-league managers from last year, though some assignments have changed at the lower levels. Daren Brown is returning for his sixth season at the helm of Class AAA Tacoma. Jim Pankovits is back at Double-A Jackson, and Eddie Menchaca returns at Class A Clinton.

Pedro Grifol, formerly the organization’s director of minor-league operations, will put back on the uniform to manage at Class A High Desert, replacing Jose Moreno. Moreno takes over as skipper of the Pulaski Mariners of the Class A Appalachian League, replacing Rob Mummau. And Mummau, in turn, will manage Everett of the Northwest League, a job held last year by Scott Steinmann. Steinmann will be a coach for the Peoria Mariners of the Arizona League. Mike Kinkade will manage the Peoria Mariners after coaching in Everett last year.

Here are all the coaching assignments for 2012, with new hires denoted with an asterisk. The Rainiers haven’t yet hired a hitting coach to replace Alonzo Powell, who took a major-league position with the Dodgers.
