Friday’s Mariner minor-league report; Mike Carp begins rehab stint with Tacoma

Here is today’s Mariner minor-league report.

I’m scrambling to get a few things done before heading off to the ballpark for tonight’s opener, so I’m going to keep it brief. But this just in: the Mariners announced that Mike Carp will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma tonight. The Rainiers are in Fresno to open a four-game series with the Grizzlies.

Carp is on the 15-day DL with a sprained right shoulder suffered in the Mariners’ season-opening game with Oakland in Japan. Considering Carp had a full spring training, I don’t think he’ll need much time in Tacoma (as opposed to Franklin Gutierrez, who got hurt before games started). And when Carp returns, manager Eric Wedge faces some interesting decisions on playing time, as has already been much discussed.
