Here’s the first of this year’s minor-league report, once again ably compiled by Kelly Munro of the Mariners.
Tacoma got off to a great start with a 9-1 win at Fresno, with Mike Zunino making a strong Triple-A debut and Danny Hultzen looking great on the mound. Zunino homered his first time up, and also had a triple and a walk. Hultzen, who struggled with his command last year once he joined the Rainiers, was sharp in six innings. He threw 51 strikes in 72 total pitches, striking out eight and walking two. Hultzen gave up just three hits and one run. If Hultzen keeps up those kind of results, on top of a strong spring (until slowed by a minor hip injury), he’ll be knocking on the door for a callup.
You can listen to Mike Curto’s call of the home run:

There was plenty other offense you can read about, including four hits by Endy Chavez, and a home run by Alex Liddi among Tacoma’s 16 hits.
Jackson, meanwhile, lost their opener, 5-3, as Taijuan Walker took the defeat. Walker struck out eight in five innings, but allover four runs on four hits (two of them homers) and four walks.
