A commit, and more

The Huskies have reportedly received a commitment from offensive lineman Scott Shugert of Oregon City, Ore. Shugert isn’t rated real high on a lot of the recruiting lists so far, but we all know how inaccurate such ratings can be, especially heading into a senior season.
And he’s a lineman, something the Huskies need as many of as they can get.
Here’s a Rivals.com story on Shugert’s commitment.
He is the sixth commit for the Class of 2007. Here’s a list.
And while all recruiting classes are critical, this one really seems big since Tyrone Willingham has to show that he is making headway in that area.
He got a pass on the class he put together in 2005 considering the late date he arrived, but last year’s didn’t create as much excitement as hoped due to the inability to get in-state players like Stephen Schilling and Taylor Mays and the late loss of James Montgomery after he had given an early commit. The Huskies need to create a recruiting buzz this season.
• Just as a reminder, the season officially gets under way this week as practice will start Tuesday. There will be news and notes coming here every day once practice begins. Also, Picture Day is next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
