Getting closer

Tyrone Willingham entered the interview room with a jump in his step today — either he’s excited that the season is now less than 48 hours away, or that there are now no more press conferences remaining until kickoff.
Willingham’s final pre-season press briefing included nothing real earth-shattering.
Of most note may be that CB Dashon Goldson is a “gametime” decision to play. That may mean he doesn’t play given how things have gone with that balky high ankle sprain.
DE Greyson Gunheim, on the other hand, sounds almost certain to see action as Willingham said he has handled practice just fine this week.
Willingham said several other players are gametime decisions, including safety Chris Hemphill (thigh bruise) and WR Quintin Daniels (hand).
Willingham said the starting returners will be Marlon Wood for punts and Roy Lewis for kickoffs. The other kickoff returner, he said, is undetermined though candidates include Anthony Russo, Sonny Shackelford and Wood.
Willingham also talked a little bit about the team’s new uniforms, made of differnt material designed to breathe a little better. The QBs wore the new jerseys in practice Wednesday to get adjusted to them.
“You always want your quarterbacks to get comfortable with them,” Willingham said.
FYI – I’ll be on with Mike Gastineau on KJR-AM tonight at 6:35 p.m.
Tomorrow, we’ll break down the San Jose State game in a little more detail, and I’ll also answer a reader request and name my five UW breakout players for the season.
