Stanback leads honored players

Tyrone Willingham began a tradition last season of honoring Players of the Game after UW wins.
This week’s honorees are Isaiah Stanback (offense), Greyson Gunheim (defense), Sean Douglas (special teams) and Shelton Sampson and Fred Wiggs (service team).
To fans, the awards are most interesting as insight into who the coaches thought played well. Louis Rankin got most of the media accolaes afterward, but this award indicates they graded Stanback just as high or higher — maybe because Rankin did lose a fumble.
And while Chris Stevens had more sacks and tackles, they must have felt Gunheim was a more consistent force. Certainly, Gunheim had to fight through more attention from the opponent.
Also, the depth chart for this week is out and it appears to contain no significant changes from a week ago. Matt Fountaine and Dashon Goldson are again listed as either/ors at one cornerback spot, indicating that Goldson may have more of a chance to play this week. Donny Mateaki and Jordan Reffett are listed as either/ors at DT, but it was that way last week, as well, and Mateaki got the start.
And Michael Gottlieb is listed as a co-starter at tight end, indicating that maybe his injury isn’t all that serious, although it’s interesting that redshirt freshman Tim Williams is included as the fourth TE on the roster, something that wasn’t the case a week ago.
We’ll have more later today from the regular Monday press conference.
