Winter moves to tight end

With the Huskies suddenly down two tight ends, UW coach Tyrone Willingham is examining all options to fill the void.
One option that will be tried this week is moving defensive end Walt Winter to tight end. Willingham made that announcement before practice today, saying that Winter, a defensive end from Juanita High, will begin practicing at tight end today.
Willingham said that Michael Gottlieb (broken hand) and Robert Lewis (broken foot) would be out anywhere from 2-4 weeks. Each was injured in Saturday’s win over San Jose State.
With those two out, Johnie Kirton now becomes the starting tight end. The backup is likely to be Tim Williams, a redshirt freshman from Chehalis who did not play against the Spartans.
The only other TE on the roster is walk-on Tim Harris.
Winter caught 14 passes for 217 yards as a tight end at Juanita in 2003.
Willingham also said that JC transfer CB Jordan Murchison remains questionable with a knee injury. He did not play Saturday, one reason the Huskies had so little depth in the secondary.
Also, the Huskies will practice indoors today, though more so in an attempt to replicate the expected noise they will get at Oklahoma than the heat.
