Gottlieb back, other notes

Injured UW tight end Michael Gottlieb will likely be able to play Saturday against UCLA in what might have been the highlight of Tyrone Willingham’s daily meeting with the media.
Willingham said there is a “good, strong chance” that Gottlieb — out since the opener with a broken hand — will be back.
There was little other personnel news. CB Dashon Goldson remains limited and Willingham said it is still uncertain if he can play Saturday.
Even though the TE position is getting healthier, Willingham said Walt Winter will remain at that spot rather than returning to defensive end.
One thing to watch this week is how UW makes up for the loss of E.J. Savannah, who was a key part of the nickel packages. One possibility is moving true freshman Donald Butler into the mix on those teams. Butler has played only on special teams so far.
The Huskies began practice today with about five minutes of the “circle drill” where two players square off while encircled by the rest of the team. It’s the kind of thing you usually only see during training camp so interesting that it was pulled out for a mid-week practice during the season.
And to answer a question a few of you have had about the offensive line, Tim Lappano said there are no plans to try to play any of the backups to give the starters rest. All five starters have played every play and Lappano said that’s fine with him if they can do it all season.
