Somebody believes in the Huskies

UW couldn’t break into the traditonal polls this week, but in the Anderson-Hester poll — one of the ones used by the BCS — the Huskies are No. 11 this week.
Here’s the link.
Most interesting may be UW’s strength of schedule rank of No. 9 and that they rank the Pac-10 as the best conference in the country. Not sure if I believe that or not as the bottom of the conference seems weak to me this year.
Also, I got several requests to write more about the closed-circuit telecast Saturday night at Hec Ed.
Unfortunately, having been in Arizona instead, there’s little I can say about it personally.
But it sounds as if it was a big success. UW officials are now saying there were about 7,000 people there and coach Tyrone Willingham cited the event as one of the two big positives of the weekend, the other being the fact that the Huskies won the game.
That so many people showed up, Willingham said, “just speaks volumes to the passion that is in and around this football program.”
It wasn’t an easy project to put together and AD Todd Turner thanks the appropriate people on his blog here.
The good news is that I think something similar will be unneccessary the rest of the year. The remaining road games are USC and WSU — each already picked for TV — and Cal and Oregon, which seem good bets considering how UW is playing and how Cal and Oregon are each conference contenders.
