Tuesday practice update

When the Huskies took the field for practice today, only three players were wearing red — LBs E.J. Savannah (hand) and Trenton Tuiasosopo (apparently hand) and TE Robert Lewis.
UW coach Tyrone Willingham said Lewis may be able to play this week. Savannah was wearing pads and going through the early portion of the workout which means he may be close to returning as well.
The rest of the team appears ready to go. WR Anthony Russo, who suffered a concussion against Arizona, was practicing without a red jersey. Willingham had indicated that LB Scott White and S C.J. Wallace (each shoulders) might be in red, but neither was indicating they are better now than they were a week ago.
The members of the Victory Club this week for their play against Arizona are DT Wilson Afoa, DE Greyson Gunheim, QB Isaiah Stanback and RB Kenny James. Asked if that seemed like a small number, Willingham said there is a “great standard” for being part of the Victory Club. You’ll notice that White, the reigning Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Week, didn’t make it.
Willingham spent a good portion of his daily meeting with the media talking about USC’s defense, especially its ability to create turnovers. USC leads the Pac-10 in turnover margin at plus-five (nine gained, four lost) a stat is has dominated the past few years — USC was plus-21 a year ago.
Willingham said the Huskies will work with its No. 1 and No. 2 units against each other this week to try to replicate USC’s speed as opposed to just working against what he calls “the service teams” — which you may know better as scout teams.
Willingham said USC’s speed at linebacker is a particular concern.
But when asked if that meant the Huskies might have to alter what they do with Stanback and his running this week, he said no. “Isaiah’s pretty quick,” Willingham said.
Willingham also said he expects injured USC WR Dwayne Jarrett, who missed the WSU game with a shoulder injury, to play and that the Huskies will prepare as if he is going to see action. USC coach Pete Carroll said earlier today that Jarrett would try to practice today which will give the team a better idea if he can do this weekend.
