We’ll try to answer a few questions that have come our way this week, so away we go:
WILL JORDAN MURCHISON PLAY THIS SEASON?
Right now, I think you can assume anyone who hasn’t played who has a redshirt year available to them is going to redshirt. As I’ve written here before, Tyrone Willingham doesn’t really commit to that much ahead of time except in obvious cases, saying that a redshirt year has to be earned and isn’t officially awarded until that fifth year. Murchison has battled knee troubles all year and I think that barring injuries, they will now try to let him get healthy and compete next season. But injuries are always the X factor. If two or three cornerbacks went down now, anyone available might have to play.
DUE TO THE RECENT SPATE OF CONCUSSIONS, ANY TALK OF GOING TO THOSE SPECIAL HELMETS?
Good question that I haven’t asked anyone up there about yet, but I will. That said, I don’t really think UW has had more than you’d expect. I noticed this week that Oregon State starting safety Al Afalalava is also likely out this week with a concussion. They happen, especially to hard-hitting defensive players. The worry is when they happen more than once in a quick time, which is the concern with Jason Wells.
HOW ARE TICKET SALES THIS WEEK?
Somewhat surprisingly, apparently not all that much different than they were for the UCLA game. I’m told UW has sold about the same amount of tickets at mid-week this week as they had prior to UCLA. Oregon State is likely to bring a few more fans, however, which might bump it up just a little, though OSU’s contingent is apparently smaller than it has been in the pastl. Surely, playing OSU at home for three straight years might have an effect, and maybe the fact that it is on TV will keep some people home, as well. But it was easy to assume that the recent success would drive some more people to the stadium on Saturday. So far, however, that doesn’t seem to be happening.
Also, I was remiss in not doing more on Dan Howell’s nomination yesterday for the FedEx Orange Bowl Courage Award.
Here’s the official release from the Football Writers Association of America.
One last link for now — Here’s Bruce Feldman’s blog on ESPN Insider (you can only get it if you have a subscrpition). He lists the Hot 100 players in the nation at midseason and has Isaiah Stanback at No. 81.
