Gameday reading

Kickoff is still a few hours away, which gives lots of time for reading all there is about this game.
First, here are our stories from today on our Husky page. A few people commented I seemed too negative in the main story today. On the other hand, I keep hearing from people who think UW shouldn’t be happy to just be 4-4. I guess that’s the very definition of .500 — not too good, but not too bad, and open for all kinds of interpretation.
However you lean, I think today will clarify things a lot more. If UW has really improved greatly, it will win today. But a loss today will show again that lots of work remains.
Here, also, are a story and a game preview box from the Arizona Republic. Interesting that the ASU writer gives UW the edge on defense. That doesn’t really hold up statistically as ASU is allowing 61 yards per game fewer than UW, though only about one point fewer per game.
UW, however, has played a little tougher schedule, which certainly influences the numbers, so maybe this writer will turn out to be correct.
On the other hand, this piece from the East Valley Tribune makes the case that ASU’s defense is vastly improved this year but that today will prove a lot.
Here, also, is a good take on the game today from Ken Goe at the Oregonian.
Certainly, it’s two teams with a lot on the line, the kind of game that makes college football exciting, even if neither team is undefeated.
