Erickson to ASU, and commits galore

Lots of interesting news out there on a Sunday morning.
Foremost is Dennis Erickson’s apparent return to the Pac-10 as coach at Arizona State. As I detailed here yesterday, two UW assistants have close ties to Erickson — offensive coordinator Tim Lappano and receivers coach Eric Yarber.
But the stories out of Arizona, like this one from the Arizona Republic, indicate Erickson is likely to bring much of his Idaho staff with him and will also certainly consider a few of the holdover ASU assistants, so it’s uncertain how many openings there will be. Among those certain to follow Erickson is offensive coordinator Dan Cozzetto. Here’s some more on Erickson from the East Valley Tribune.
Here’s take on the Erickson hiring by Arizona Republic columnist Paola Boivin.
Erickson leaving Idaho after 10 months isn’t going over well in Moscow as the Vandals understandably feel a little jilted. AD Rob Spear had some especially strong comments to the Spokesman-Review.
And Review columnist John Blanchette says the fact that Erickson moves around so much showes he is missing the integrity gene.
Also, lots happening on the recruiting front for UW. Sounds as if the Huskies will be getting several commitments today, notably from junior college punter Jared Ballman who will likely take over for Sean Douglas if Ryan Perkins can’t make it back from a devestating knee injury suffered in the spring game last year.
For those who like to follow the ins-and-outs of recruiting, there are three web sites you can turn to — Dawgman, RealDawg and Husky Digest.
We’ll have our own roundup of it all a little later.
