Huskies add Hawaii

News broke earlier today that the Huskies and Cougars have agreed to move the Apple Cup back a week to be played the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
Now comes word that the Huskies might finish next season with a 13th game at Hawaii on Dec. 1.
The school says it has tentatively agreed to conclude its regular season on Dec. 1 at the University of Hawai’i. The addition of the game, which will be played at Aloha Stadium, will give Washington an NCAA-allowable 13 regular-season contests. The exact details of the contract are pending and are subject to the scheduling of a return game at the UW at a future date.
UW turned down an opportunity to play at Hawaii in 2006 but has apparently decided it would be a good idea for the 2007 season.
It will be a challenging game as Hawaii’s star quarterback Colt Brennan recently announced that he is staying in school for his senior season.
Here’s a link to some comments from UW coach Tyrone Willingham about the schedule.
UW and Hawaii have played just twice — in 1938 in the Pineapple Bowl (a 53-13 UW win) and in Seattle in 1973, a 10-7 Hawaii win.
Here’s a link to Washington’s tentative schedule for next season.
ONE QUICK UPDATE — The Huskies are scheduled to open the season Sept. 1 at Syracuse. There is still discussion of moving the game to Friday, Aug. 31 for TV purposes. There is no longer talk of moving the game to Thursday, so it will either be Friday night, or Saturday.
ANOTHER UPDATE — We ran this chart a little while ago to point out how difficult UW’s schedule will be next season. Here it is updated now with the recent changes. This information is courtesy of the UW sports information department.
