The view from Hawaii

Here’s a link to a news release from the University of Hawaii on the newly scheduled game with Washington for next season.
Most interesting to me was the statement that Hawaii’s win at Washington in 1973 — the last time these teams played — is regarded as the biggest upset in Hawaii history, with the Huskies being favored “by as many as 50 points.”
I have to admit I don’t know much about that game, though I’ll try to do some quick research and find out what I can.
I’m curious if anyone here remembers that game or knows anything about it.
What I do know is that from a UW standpoint, it was the first game of the 1973 season, meaning it was the first game of the post-Sonny Sixkiller era. That was a bad season for the Huskies as they went 2-9 overall and 0-7 in conference play, the worst year for UW until the 2004 season.
As for next year’s game, yes adding Hawaii means UW will have to go 7-6 to get to a bowl game, which means there is an obvious scenario where the Huskies are 6-6 after the Apple Cup, then have to win at Hawaii to get to a bowl.
