Pac-10 getting aggressive

Though we focused here earlier on Washington’s schedule changes for 2007, the Pac-10 also announced its schedule today. Here’s a link.
The most interesting thing is that there are two Thursday night games that will be nationally televised on ESPN as part of the conference’s new agreement with that network —- Oregon at Arizona on Nov. 15 and USC at Arizona State on Nov. 22, which is Thanksgiving Day.
UW athletic director Todd Turner has been at the forefront of trying to get the Pac-10 to experiment a little to get some additional national exposure, and it sounds as if some people have been listening.
The USC-ASU game is obviously incredibly interesting as we’ll get a chance to see how Dennis Erickson’s first year is progessing, while that will be USC’s last game before its season finale against UCLA and the Trojans will be expected to still be in the national title hunt. I’m assuming that will be a night game which would be a fun way to end Thanksgiving Day for those of us who have gotten bored by watching Detroit Lions blowouts.
You’ll also note that each of the other four rivalry games in the conference are set for Dec. 1. Also noteworthy is that Oregon State still has to fill two non-conference games, not something you usually see this late in the game.
