Tyrone speaks

Washington coach Tyrone Willingham hasn’t done a lot of interviews since the season ended.
But the school’s website, gohuskies.com, caught up with him today for a question-and-answer session, though not before spending “weeks of chasing him down” as it says in one of the opening paragraphs. You can find that interview here.
This interview, I’m told, was conducted this morning, and among the topics is the search for a new receivers coach. Willingham says he has “conducted a number of preliminary discussions” but has yet to make a final decision.
We wrote here yesterday about the rumors concerning Charlie Baggett, and word is that Baggett is among those with whom Willingham has had one of those “preliminary discussions.” Other than that, however, it sounds as if there is still a little ways to go before a hire is announced.
One of the more interesting things Willingham says is that he doesn’t think losing Eric Yarber hurt the team’s recruiting in any way because “all the skill guys” were already in place.
Willingham also talks about adding the Hawaii game for next season and says again that he thinks the 2007 team will be better prepared to play such a game than the 2006 team — Willingham turned down a chance to play at Hawaii to end the 2006 season.
He also talks about the quarterback position and says that he expects some additions for the spring quarter. That sounds like additional confirmation of the reports that Ronnie Fouch will enroll for the spring and that Californian Chandler Clemons will walk on.
