Huskies add Colorado to schedule

But it won’t be for a long time.
As the news release states — “The University of Washington athletic department has reached an agreement to renew its football rivalry against the University of Colorado in a home-and-away series in the years 2015 and 2016, school officials from both institutions announced today.
“Washington will travel to Boulder, Colo. for a game on Sept. 12, 2015 while Colorado will return the trip to Husky Stadium on Sept. 10, 2016.”
UW and Colorado have played some memorable games through the years. In 1990, UW lost on the road 20-14 when a Mark Brunell pass from the 7-yard line was picked off in the end zone with 1:04 left. Colorado went on to win a share of the national title, and the Huskies finished No. 5.
And in 1999 and 2000, the two teams played a home-and-home series in the first two seasons after coach Rick Neuheisel left Colorado for Washington. The Huskies won both games, and while Neuheisel always downplayed the “revenge” angle, it obviously meant a lot to him.
The 1999 game was one of the more important in Neuheisel’s UW career as the Huskies were 0-2 before hosting the Buffs, but unveiled an offense that emphasized the option to fit the talents of quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo. Washington won the game 31-24 and rushed for 205 yards in a game that saw the beginnings of the foundation for the 2000 team that would win the Rose Bowl.
Washington won in Boulder in 2000, 17-10, and the two teams haven’t played since.
