Husky Football Blog

The latest news and analysis on the Montlake Dawgs.

February 7, 2007 at 8:01 AM

Signing day arrives

Real news should start happening at any time.
Until then, I’ll post a couple of the stories in our paper today.
First, there’s this by Craig Smith on what it is that recruiters look for when scouting football players.
Here’s my story on Ronnie Fouch and the fact that he is planning on enrolling early to get a headstart on competing for the QB job. I mentioned in the story that he was thought to be the first Husky in more than 20 years to do enroll early. Someone on here mentioned Kai Bynum, a defensive back from Olympia in 1996, and I think you’re right, from looking at Bynum’s bio in the media guide.
I asked around at UW, but I should probably have thrown that out here on the blog to see what you guys remember.
I started covering the team in 1997 so I didn’t remember Bynum doing that — he had some injuries early in his career and had to give up the game shortly after arriving at UW.
One who might come to mind is Chad Ward, but his is a different case. Ward was injured his last year of high school and he essentially grayshirted, sitting out the first fall of his career, then enrolling the following spring.
Here, also, is the latest class ranking from Scout.com, showing UW at No. 29 in the country, and still No. 4 in the Pac-10, though with UCLA quickly closing.
