Defending Tui

Here’s an interesting column from Monte Poole of the Oakland Tribune on the plight of Marques Tuiasosopo during his six frustrating seasons with the Raiders.
Poole voices a lot of the same sentiments I had watching Tui’s career from afar — mainly, that it really seemed odd that he never got much of a chance, and that the team wouldn’t release him even once it became apparent he wasn’t in their plans.
As Poole points out, Tuiasosopo is an unconventional QB, and certainly an odd fit for the traditional Raider style. And once Jon Gruden left, he didn’t figure to have much of a future there. But he also has played so little that it’s impossible to know if his style will translate to the NFL.
Tui’s now with the Jets, where maybe he will get more of a chance.
