Willingham Thursday briefing
Really not a whole lot new to report out here today.
UW coach Tyrone Willingham met the media before practice as the team is expected to go in shells after working without pads on Monday and Tuesday. The team will go in shells (helmets and shoulder pads) again on Friday before going in full pads Saturday.
Willingham said WR Quintin Daniels has been slowed by a hip flexor but that otherwise, the team is relatively healthy. OT Eric Berglund remains limited by a hamstring, but all other scholarship players have been good to go.
He spoke a little bit about DE Greyson Gunheim and remarked that Gunehim had had “a good off-season” and may be setting himself up to have a better year than last season when Gunheim was slowed by an early knee injury and an inability to keep weight on.
He also was asked about the decision today to revert to the old timing rules, mainly not starting the clock so quickly after a change of possession or after kickoffs — you can find those details here — and said he was in favor of that. “College football was wonderful as it was,” he said.
Willingham also mentioned that Saturday is the day when former players are invited to return to watch practice and then meet with the current team afterward. He’s hoping to exceed last year’s number when roughly 140 alums returned.
