At the stadium

We’re here at the press box at Husky Stadium for the first time since that dreary afternoon against Stanford.
A 0-0 tie today would be better than that game, though we’re expecting some points today.
Before the action gets started, I’ll point you to a story we had today that updated a few things going on concerning the renovation Husky Stadium.
Specifically, a 12-person committee has been formed to make a report to the Board of Regents later this summer that will recommend a course of action as well as possible funding mechanisms. You can get the list of committee members in the story, but among them is former coach Don James.
Also of note in the story is a quote from UW AD Todd Turner that that stadium will require $70-100 million of “deferred maintenance” even if nothing else is done. Turner said that could be spread out over the next 10 years.
Frankly, that seems a little ominous if it’s going to require that much work just to get the stadium in shape before any major renovation can be done. This is going to be one herculean project.
To address a couple of other issues:
— Some of the team is out on the field and there are no names on the back of the uniforms. That doesn’t mean there won’t be for next season, but there aren’t today.
— One fan asked about my comment that there is a gap between the No. 1 and No. 2 O-lines. I don’t think that should be unexpected. But I also thought it became pretty evident in the scrimmage on Tuesday when Casey Bulyca was out and Ryan Bush and Ryan Tolar filled in for him at guard. The line didn’t look as good without Bulyca in there.
