Celebration of 1960 team set

The University of Washington today announced plans to honor the 1960 team, which finished 10-1, won the Rose Bowl and was No. 1 in the Helms Foundation poll at the end of the season.
The full release is here.
In a nutshell, the school announced that it “will honor its proud and successful heritage this fall with a weekend full of special activities surrounding the Sept. 29 home football game against the University of Southern California. The team will also wear Nike-designed replica ‘throwback’ jerseys from the 1960 season.”
Also, the school said “a number of events will be held in conjunction with the Huskies’ critical Pacific-10 Conference game against the nationally-ranked Trojans, which will be televised live nationally by ABC and ESPN or ESPN2 beginning at 5 p.m. The department will also honor the 1960 squad that convincingly defeated top-ranked Minnesota by a score of 17-7 in the Rose Bowl and was listed as the nation’s top team in the final Helms Foundation poll following the conclusion of the bowl games that season.”
That team is the the focus of a new book by author Tom Porter titled “A Football Band of Brothers.” We’ll have more on that book at a later date.
As the release further details, that weekend also coincides with the opening of the new “Legacy Center,” an addition to the current football offices/weight room complex that will serve as something of a museum of Husky football.
