Monday night musings

I’ll try to answer a couple of questions and send along a couple quick links as well
— On tickets: The ticket situation for this week is pretty similar to last week. A couple thousand or so remain and UW officials are hopeful of a crowd that night top last week’s 70,045. But it’s unlikely to be a sellout ahead of time. UW is still selling season tickets, so there are pockets of tickets reserved for that. And as an official explained today, there are always tickets kept for recruits, etc., that can get released at the last minute.
— I checked Phil Steele’s site and he doesn’t have his picks up yet (it’s pretty early for that yet). But here is his site for you to check and I’ll post it when I see it, as well.
— That was a great breakdown by Malibu Dawg of the game. A couple of thoughts of mine are that UW’s speed on defense will have to counter Ohio State’s size on offense. Ohio State’s O-line goes 6-8 313, 6-8 345, 6-4 302, 6-4 321 and 6-6 300 left to right. That’s pretty darn big. And then there is RB Beanie Wells who is 6-1, 235. UW hasn’t faced anything like that yet this year, obviously.
On offense, a key will be how well the Huskies can contain OSU’s linebackers. This will be the best set of LBs UW has faced, and those players are especially key in defending against the spread option and the QB run of Jake Locker. To keep those guys off guard, UW will have to get some conventional run going, meaning winning some battles up front. I thought the Huskies struggled to do that against Boise State, so they’ll need better play there.
— Speaking of the matchup, there was what seemed to be kind of a curt comment by Tyrone Willingham today when he was asked about his comment that the Huskies are faster now than they have been and he said “weren’t not this week.” I asked him about it later and he said he was referring to the fact that Ohio State is the opponent this week, meaning being faster is relative to the opponent at hand.
— Here’s a brief LA Times mention of the game this week.
— Here’s a brief story on UW’s resurgence from the New York Times with an interesting quote from former Husky assistant Gary Pinkel.
— Here’s a Sporting News story calling this week’s game a possible upset for the Huskies.
— Here’s a column from Ohio on the importance of this game for the Buckeyes.
