Olson sitting out UCLA practice
Interesting news out of UCLA this afternoon that quarterback Ben Olson is not practicing, with Brian Dohn of the LA Daily News reporting that it may be because of a concussion.
With UCLA coaches available after practice, more should be known in a few hours.
UCLA’s listed backup is McLeod Bethel-Thompson, a redshirt freshman who has yet to play. But the real backup is junior Pat Cowan, who is the son of former UW quarterback Tim Cowan. Pat Cowan is listed third on the depth chart because he has been out with a hamstring injury. I talked to Cowan earlier in the day and he told me he could play this week if needed.
“I feel good,” he said.
Pat Cowan was the QB when UCLA upset USC last year.
UW PRACTICE NOTES:
— The practice began with linebackers coach Chris Tormey telling his players to “have a good mental day.” That fit with the theme of the week, which is that the Huskies made too many mistakes in the Ohio State game.
— CB Byron Davenport was not in red but was wearing a scout team number. He was last through all the drills and appeared to be giving it a good go but it was hard to tell if he was going all out. LB Dan Howell appeared to be moving around pretty good, as was RB Brandon Johnson. We should get a better idea of the injury picture tomorrow from Tyrone Willingham.
