For our main story today I wrote about UW’s second halves, a popular topic out there among some of you. As the story details, UW has been outscored 70-56 in the second half this season and 64-28 the past two weeks.
I also wrote a notebook leading off with the celebration this weekend for the 1960 team. The notebook also includes some news on Devin Aguilar and Anthony Boyles. I talked to each in the past few days and said they hoped to find out this week whether they will be eligible. School starts Wednesday so something has to happen soon.
Aguilar is in Seattle staying with an uncle and his family saying he’s “staying in shape.”
Boyles is in Los Angeles and said he didn’t attend the UW-UCLA game but watched it on TV. When I asked him what he thought of the game he said “They need receivers like me,” he said.
Boyles said the stress over his situation had caused him to lose about 10 pounds. “Once I took the test (the Saturday of the Ohio State game) I was ready to eat again,” he said. He said he’s weighing about 187 pounds.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Scott Wolf’s USC blog has lots of updates on the Trojans’ injury situation. Wolf writes for the Los Angeles Daily News. Wolf also has this story.
— Here’s the LA Times story today leading off with C.J. Gable saying he’s not unhappy with his lack of rushing attempts the last two games.
— The Times also has this column on Notre Dame’s struggles.
— ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr., had some nice words for UW’s Anthony Russo in his Personnel Points column this week (it’s in the Insider package). Kiper wrote that Russo’s “sure hands, athleticism and quickness could make him a decent fourth option as a slot receiver in the NFL.” Kiper, however, had harsher words for UW’s defense, saying the Huskies “will have to improve their run defense dramatically” something he said “could be a tough task” given the schedule.
— Here’s an interesting story on Tank Johnson that also includes a glowing quite about Isaiah Stanback from former Cowboy great Calvin Hill.
