Wells out for season, Aguilar in
UW coach Tyrone Willingham confirmed today that Devin Aguilar has received a qualifying test score, but he said there Aguilar’s transcripts still have to be approved by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
Willingham said if that goes to plan, Aguilar will enroll in January and will have five years to play four, essentially grayshirting.
Willingham also said that free safety Jason Wells will have knee surgery soon and is likely out for the season.
Wells has played too many games this season to redshirt.
He will be replaced by either Darrin Harris or Nate Williams, who have been competing at that spot during the bye week.
Willingham said a few players have been out with the flu of late, including CB Vonzell McDowell, and that LB E.J. Savannah has been sidelined with a minor foot injury.
Willingham also said that CB Jordan Murchison has looked “not bad” in practice the last few days but that it’s way too soon to know how much he may be able to play next week against Arizona State. But he said Murchison is working at cornerback and won’t be moved to safety even with the sudden void there with Wells out.
