A look at the true frosh

A reader asked for a breakdown of which true freshmen have played to date, and which haven’t, so here goes:
(And this is scholarship players only)
PLAYED
CB Vonzell McDowell
S Nate Williams
S Victor Aiyewa
LB Mason Foster
FB/LB Austin Sylvester
RB Curtis Shaw
RB Brandon Johnson

Of those, only McDowell has started any games (three). The rest have played as backups or on special teams. It is now too late to redshirt, so expect all of those players to continue playing, and likely seeing increasing time, the rest of the season.
NOT PLAYED
DL Kalani Aldrich
OL Mark Armelin
LB Cort Dennison
DL Tyrone Duncan
OL Skyler Fancher
PK Erik Folk
QB Ronnie Fouch
RB Willie Griffin
TE Chris Izbicki
WR Alvin Logan
CB Marquis Persley
DB Quinton Richardson
OL Scott Shugert
DL Nick Wood
RB Brandon Yakaboski

Of those who not played, Wood, Folk, Yakaboski and Duncan have all suffered fairly significant injuries that took them out of the running for playing time. Fouch is making every trip as the No. 3 QB but won’t play this season unless there is an extreme emergency.
The rest, I think, are pretty much set for redshirt seasons. Tyrone Willingham said on his radio show this week that he had had a player in his office to discuss whether to play this season or redshirt, but he didn’t say who it is (and won’t) and I have no idea who that might be. The defensive coaches yesterday pretty much ruled out all the guys on their side, as well.
The Huskies will have a 64-man travel roster for this week’s game — that’s the limit per Pac-10 rules — so we’ll see if any others make it. That won’t be available, by the way, until tomorrow.
