More links and picks

We had lots of coverage of the Apple Cup today including:
— this preview story;
a column by Bud Withers on the state of the two programs;
— a notebook with a wrapup of what happened at the rally Friday;
— and this capsule preview.
A COUPLE PICKS:
Am late with these this week, but here are my picks on the other two Pac-10 games of today.
OREGON AT UCLA: Who really knows how to pick a game featuring Brady Leaf and Osaar Rasshan at QB? And two teams that appear on a swift downward plane? If Jonathan Stewart is healthy, I think the Ducks will rely on him, surely having reworked the offense a bit to feature him which could be enough to get it done. OREGON 31, UCLA 24.
NOTRE DAME AT STANFORD: I love that Charlie Weis has apparently spent the week pointing out that this Notre Dame team could be first since 1992 to finish a season with two straight wins, which as the story points out is mostly just because ND has been losing bowl games with more regularity Guess you look for silver linings where you can. I’m thinking Stanford’s defense will cause some turnovers and get the crowd into it and propel another win. STANFORD 27, NOTRE DAME 17.
